A young Virginia Tech wide receiver has entered the transfer portal.

Redshirt freshman Chance Fitzgerald announced he's testing the transfer waters and putting his name in.

Fitzgerald was a four-star prospect the Hokies signed late in the 2023 class out of Nolensville, Tennessee. He was the No. 441 player nationally in the class.

He redshirted in 2023, getting in for one game, before appearing in 11 contests in 2024. He played 22 snaps as a wideout and 53 on special teams.

Fitzgerald figured to play prominently in the future in a receiver room that's losing Da'Quan Felton, Ali Jennings, Jaylin Lane and Stephen Gosnell. Despite his departure, the Hokies still have a promising crew of receivers coming back, including Ayden Greene, Tucker Holloway, Keylen Adams and Chanz Wiggins, along with incoming freshmen Snook Peterkin and Jayden Anderson.

The Hokies now have 15 scholarship players in the portal. For more information on Virginia Tech’s comings and goings this offseason, click here for Tech Sideline’s roster management page.
