After two-plus years as a starting cornerback for the Hokies, Mansoor Delane plans to go into the transfer portal.
On3 Sports reported Wednesday that the junior planned to enter the portal, a social media post Delane himself retweeted.The 6-foot-1, 187-pound defensive back was a third-team All-ACC pick this year after finishing with four interceptions. He had six interceptions in his time in Blacksburg, earning an All-ACC honorable mention as a freshman in 2022. He'll have one year of eligibility left.
Delane might still have NFL ambitions this winter, mentioned as a possible pick in the early rounds by several sites.
If he stays in college, a landing spot for a future NFLer like him that would make sense is Ohio State, where his younger brother Faheem, who's a four-star safety, just signed.
With Delane in the portal and Dorian Strong having already said he'll move on to the NFL, the Hokies will have a new look at cornerback in 2025. Dante Lovett and Thomas Williams served as the top backups this season. Freshman Joshua Clarke might be next in line, meaning cornerback should be a priority for Virginia Tech in the transfer portal.
Delane is the 14th Virginia Tech player to go into the portal and the fifth projected starter, joining safeties Jalen Stroman and Mose Phillips and offensive linemen Xavier Chaplin and Braelin Moore.
