Hokies fans didn't get to see safety Jalen Stroman play much after he injured his shoulder in the 2024 season opener. Now they'll watch him play his final year for a different team.
Stroman entered the transfer portal when it officially opened Monday, according to a report from 247Sports.
Tech had high hopes for Stroman, who entered his senior year this fall as a versatile starter on the back end who had 106 tackles to his credit. He injured his shoulder diving to make a tackle against Vanderbilt, however, and did not play again.
He can take a redshirt to return for one more year of eligibility.
Stroman finishes his Hokies career with 111 tackles in 36 games with eight starts.
His departure is a blow to depth at safety, where he was projected as a starter in 2025. Tech also could lose redshirt sophomore Mose Phillips, who said Monday he's going into the portal. The group gets young, with Jaylen Jones exhausting his eligibility.
Freshman Quentin Reddish, who was a key reserve, return. There aren't many game reps behind them, though, with Devin Alves, Braylon Johnson, Cameren Fleming and Noah Jenkins rounding out the group, making this a prime position the Hokies will be looking for in the portal.
