Virginia Tech picked up a commitment on Signing Day when Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) cornerback Jahmari DeLoatch flipped from Cincinnati to the Hokies.
He becomes the 19th signee of the Hokies’ 2025 recruiting class and the 12th from the Commonwealth of Virginia. He’s also the fourth commit from the Hampton Roads area, joining Green Run’s Jayden Anderson (WR), Knahlij Harrell (CB) and Zeke Chinwike (DE).
DeLoatch is ranked anywhere between No. 8 in Virginia (247Sports) and No. 19 (Rivals). On3 lists him at No. 10 while ESPN has him at No. 15. According to 247Sports, he’s a four-star recruit.
DeLoatch took official visits to Virginia Tech (June 7) and Cincinnati (June 14) before eventually settling on the Bearcats, but he was a late flip to the Hokies on Signing Day. Michigan was also in the mix. He had other Power 4 offers from Duke, Indiana, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
A multi-sport athlete, he has been timed at a 10.87 in the 100-meters and a 22.64 in the 200-meters.
