Virginia Tech saw its first player announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal: defensive tackle Malachi Madison.
The redshirt sophomore from Chester announced his decision on social media Monday, two days after the Hokies' 37-17 win in the regular-season finale against UVa. The portal officially opens on Dec. 9.

Madison played in one game this year (Stanford) and made one tackle. He redshirted in 2022 and did not see any game action in 2023.
That's now four defensive tackles the Hokies will lose off this year's roster, with Aeneas Peebles, Josh Fuga and Wilfried Pene exhausting their eligibility, meaning the spot will likely be on Tech's offseason list of priorities in the transfer portal.
Kelvin Gilliam and Khurtiss Perry return, with Kemari Copeland coming back from injury and freshmen Emmett Laws and Andrew Hanchuk coming off a redshirt year. High schooler Christian Evans is expected to sign this week.
