Virginia Tech announced the addition of Eastern Michigan transfer Conner Serven on Friday.

“We are excited about adding Connor to our program as he brings experience, wisdom and a versatile game,” Hokies head coach Mike Young said in the program’s release. “He is a hard-playing dude who has a high level of skill and smarts — our type of guy. We are eager to get Connor here and continue to develop him.”
The 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward has two years of eligibility remaining. A Tech spokesperson clarified that he’ll be eligible for — and will have to be granted — a medical hardship waiver after he missed the majority of his junior season in 2022-23. He’s using his COVID year of eligibility this season with the Hokies.
Serven averaged 3.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 31 contests for the Eagles in 2023-24. The graduate student shot 43% from the floor and had three double-digit scoring efforts, highlighted by a 15-point outing (5-of-10 FG) vs. Kent State. Later in the year, he posted 11 points at Akron (5-of-6 FG) and 10 points at Buffalo, respectively. He was 2-of-4 from behind the arc in the latter.
Serven started his career as a preferred walk-on at Illinois, where he spent three seasons from 2020-23. He played in 18 games over that span and was part of three NCAA Tournament squads. He was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2022, too.
Serven averaged 8.3 points and 7.0 rebounds as a high school senior at St. Rita. He grew up a Fighting Illini fan and turned down multiple Division II opportunities to walk on at Illinois.
With his addition, Virginia Tech rounds out its roster. The program had one scholarship remaining for the 2024-25 season, and Serven fills that spot. Here’s a breakdown of the roster:
