Virginia Tech was picked to finish sixth in the ACC in a preseason poll voted on by the league’s media last week in Charlotte.
Last year’s champion, Florida State, topped the poll, which was released Wednesday evening. The Seminoles received 81 out of 170 first-place votes.
FSU was followed by Clemson (55 first-place votes), Miami (17), NC State (8) and Louisville.
The Hokies received five first-place votes, one of eight teams to get a vote to finish atop the standings. Tech’s 1,968 points in the poll trailed fifth-place Louisville by just 16.
SMU, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Cal and Duke rounded out the top 10, followed by Syracuse, Pitt, Boston College, Wake Forest and Virginia. League newcomer Stanford was picked to finish last.
Virginia Tech was picked to finish 11th last year, the first non-COVID season when the ACC ditched the division setup. Tech ended up going 5-3 in conference play, finishing in a tie for fourth place with Georgia Tech.
The All-ACC preseason team will be released later this week.
