Virginia Tech finished No. 50 in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup for the 2023-24 academic year with 499.25 points.
After finishing 55th in 2022-23 with 443 points, the Hokies slightly improved — partly because the football team earned 45 points for making a bowl game, which it did not do the previous year.

Virginia Tech ranked 138th after the fall season with 45 points. Football was the lone sport to earn points thanks to its Military Bowl appearance. After making the NCAA Tournament last season (25 points), women's soccer did not earn the Hokies any points this year. Men's and women's cross country, men's soccer and volleyball were all scoreless, too. Tech finished dead last in the 15-team ACC in the fall.
The athletic department was dominant in the winter, however, posting 348.75 points. Tech was ninth in the ACC behind North Carolina, Notre Dame, NC State, Virginia, Florida State, Duke, Louisville and Clemson.
Women's basketball brought in 50 points for making the NCAA Tournament. Men's swimming & diving finished ninth at the NCAAs, good for 69 points, while the women's program received 48 points with a 26th-place finish. Wrestling was seventh in the country, which garnered 72 points. To cap off the winter, men's and women's indoor track & field racked up 63.75 and 46 points, respectively, with 12th- and 26th-place finishes.
Tech had an OK spring with 105.50 points, highlighted by softball making a regional. Out of the ACC schools, the Hokies were only ahead of Pitt, Louisville and Boston College.
Softball led the way in the spring with 37.5 points. Men's track & field added 27 while the women's program scored 19. Women's golf garnered 22 points, too.
