Virginia Tech received a commitment from Jeffrey Overton on Friday.

The 5-foot-10, 187-pound running back from Alexandria, Va., is the 12th commitment in the Hokies’ 2025 class. He’s one of nine pledges from the Commonwealth and is the third commit from Northern Virginia, joining defensive tackle Christian Evans (Ashburn) and offensive lineman Nathaniel Wright (Woodbridge), who announced Thursday.
A three-star prospect, Overton is the 23rd-best player in Virginia with a national ranking of No. 704, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. His in-state ratings fluctuate:

In January, Overton announced a top 10 of Duke, Maryland, NC State, Ohio State, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wake Forest. He officially visited South Carolina (May 31), Virginia (June 7) and Maryland (June 14) before wrapping up with the Hokies (June 21), and he committed soon after visiting Blacksburg.
He had a number of other impressive offers, including Boston College, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Overton was the 2023-24 Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia after leading Freedom High School to a Class 6 state championship — for the second year in a row — and an undefeated season. A first-team all-state running back and two-time Class 6 Player of the Year, his numbers are outstanding:

*Note: Overton is transferring from Freedom to Hayfield for his senior season. His uncle, Darryl, got the head coaching job at Hayfield after previously serving as the main man at Freedom. His dad, Jeff Sr., is also on staff as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach.*
Of Virginia Tech’s 12 commits in the class of 2025, Overton is the sixth on the offensive side of the ball and the lone running back. He joins a group with two quarterbacks (Kelden Ryan and AJ Brand), one wideout (Jayden Anderson) and two offensive lineman (Carter Stallard and Nathaniel Wright).
