Brown is the third transfer portal addition for the Hokies this offseason, joining UTSA guard Jordan Ivy-Curry and Charleston forward Ben Burnham.

The 6-foot-6, 180-pound shooting guard played in all 32 games for the Golden Bears as a freshman in 2023-24. He averaged 3.5 points and 1.1 rebounds in 14 minutes per game. He scored in double figures on three occasions, all of which came in Pac-12 games: Jan. 3 at USC (13 points), Feb. 1 at Arizona (12) and Feb. 15 at Washington State (12).

He shot 41 percent from the floor, 40 percent from 3-point range and 86 percent from the free throw line this year. The Perris, Calif., native made multiple treys on eight different occasions, including three in a row in January against USC, UCLA and Colorado. He was a perfect 3-for-3 against San Diego State in November, too.

In Cal's main rotation of eight players, Brown ranked seventh in terms of percent of possessions used at 13.4 percent, according to Ken Pomeroy. He was consistently good against the top competition, however. Here's a breakdown of his shooting numbers for his career and Tier A and Tier B opponents, which are top-50 and top-100 foes, respectively, adjusting for the location of the game:

Brown attended Rancho Christian School in Temecula, Calif., and led his team to the 2023 CIF Southern Section Division 2A championship game as a senior. He averaged 19.5 points per game as a junior. ESPN and On3 rated him as a four-star prospect while 247Sports and Rivals gave him three stars. He held reported offers from Oregon State, Tennessee, UC Santa Barbara, USC and Washington State.

His addition gives Virginia Tech nine scholarship players for the 2023-24 season, leaving four open spots. Here's a breakdown:
