Virginia Tech announced the hiring of veteran coach Gunter Brewer as Director of High School Relations on Tuesday afternoon. He’ll join James Johnson, who serves in the same role. He replaces Glenwood Ferebee, who left to take a high school head coaching position in South Carolina.
Brewer is a long-time coach in this region. He most recently served as Maryland’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. Here is a list of his stops and titles dating back to 2000:

2008: Oklahoma State co-OC and QB coach
2009-10: Oklahoma State co-OC and WR coach
2011: Ole Miss assistant head coach, passing game coordinator and WR coach
2012-17: UNC co-OC and WR coach
2018: Philadelphia Eagles WR coach
2019-21: Louisville WR coach
2022-23: Maryland passing game coordinator and WR coach
Brewer, who played wide receiver for Wake Forest from 1983-86, has had a lot of success recruiting and developing wide receivers over the years, from Biletnikoff Award finalist Dez Bryant to Biletnikoff Award winners Randy Moss and Justin Blackmon.
"Gunter is a veteran coach who is one of the top recruiters in the country year in and year out," Tech head coach Brent Pry said in a release. "He brings a wealth of experience recruiting our footprint. He has coached three Biletnikoff Award finalists, including two Biletnikoff winners. We are fortunate to have him and Rhonda join us in Blacksburg."
