Hokies' Elizabeth Kitley Named Three-Time ACC Player Of The Year

On Tuesday afternoon, the ACC announced Hokies center Elizabeth Kitley was named ACC Player of the Year for the third consecutive season, as determined by the league's head coaches and Blue Ribbon Panel.

She's the third woman and fifth overall player in the conference's history to win the award three times, joining Duke's Alana Beard (2001-04), Maryland's Alyssa Thomas (2011-14), NC State's David Thompson (1972-75) and Virginia's Ralph Sampson (1980-83).

The 6-foot-6 center from Summerfield, N.C., averaged 22.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game in the regular season, both increases from last year's 18.2 and 10.7.

The two-time All-American was one of two players in the league to average a double-double this season (Pitt's Liatu King) and was a six-time ACC Player of the Week, tying a conference record. She won the award four weeks in a row in February and averaged 25.4 points and 12.6 rebounds over eight games during the month.

Kitley had eight 30-point games in the regular season, more than any other player in the conference. Six of those were double-doubles. She was second in the ACC in scoring, first in rebounding, second in field goal percentage (55.6%) and second in blocks (2.1). She had four games with 16 or more rebounds, including two 18-board games.

Kitley owns the ACC's career records for double-doubles (76) and rebounds (1,506). Her 2,709 points are second all-time, too, behind Clemson's Barbara Kennedy (3,113).

Her status heading into the ACC Tournament is unknown. She suffered an apparent knee injury halfway through the third quarter in Sunday's loss at Virginia and did not return. The No. 1 seed Hokies begin play on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET vs. the winner of North Carolina and Miami.

Kitley and Tech point guard Georgia Amoore both earned First Team All-ACC honors — for the fourth and second time, respectively. Amoore, who owns the Hokies' all-time assist record with 642 and counting, averaged 18.7 points and 7.3 assists as a senior, upticks from 16.3 points and 4.9 assists in 2022-23.

She had two 30-point games this season: 31 vs. Iowa on Nov. 9 and 39 at Virginia on March 3. Her 204 assists in the regular season were the most in the conference and third in the country.

Amoore was sixth in the league in scoring — she and Kitley were the lone duo in the top 10 — and was second in 3-point percentage and 3-pointers made behind Syracuse's Dyaisha Fair.
