A fifth Hokies player plans to enter the portal, with offensive lineman Johnny Dickson announcing Wednesday his intentions to transfer.

Dickson, a redshirt freshman, played in nine games in 2023, all in limited time as a reserve. He plans to stay with the team through the bowl game.

A 6-foot-3, 291-pound interior lineman, Dickson signed with Tech in the 2022 class out of Corpus Christi, Texas. He'll have three years of eligibility remaining.

He joins receiver Da'Wain Lofton and cornerback Derrick Canteen as players who plan to transfer but will still play in the Military Bowl. Running back Bryce Duke and tight end Dae'Quan Wright are also in the portal, although it's unclear if they'll play in the bowl.
