On Sunday, Clara Silva became the third commitment in the 2024 class for Virginia Tech women's basketball.

A 6-foot-6 center from Meinedo, Portugal, just east of Porto, Silva was a highly-pursued recruit in the 2024 class. She currently plays in Malaga, Spain, for Unicaja Baloncesto and held offers from many of college basketball's blue bloods, including UConn, Tennessee, Louisville and Maryland.
In July, Silva represented Portugal at the 2023 FIBA U18 European Championships in Turkey and averaged 18.1 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in seven outings. What's more, she was her country's top performer in each of the three group stage games and the round of 16 defeat to Poland.
Silva is Tech's third commitment in the class of 2024, joining Lexi Blue (6-2, wing, Orlando, Fla.) and Myah Hazelton (6-3, forward, Baltimore, Md.). She's also the second center to commit to the Hokies in the last two recruiting classes, along with true freshman and top-100 prospect Clara Strack. They're expected to be the next wave of talented Tech centers after two-time ACC Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley graduates.
Silva's decision gives Tech 11 commits (out of an available 15 scholarships) for the 2024-25 season, a number that could potentially be 12 if Georgia Amoore decides to return for a fifth year (thanks to COVID). Nine of those players would be freshmen or sophomores.
