
The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team will get a shot at the opponent it nearly played in the national title game last season.
The Hokies announced a big non-conference matchup for the upcoming season against national runner-up Iowa. The game will take place in Charlotte at the Spectrum Center on Thursday, Nov. 9 as the Ally Tipoff event.
Tech’s men’s basketball team will play South Carolina in the Spectrum Center the day after, so the two-day event promises to be a treat for Hokies fans in the area.
The Hokies (31-5) and the Hawkeyes (31-7) nearly met for the NCAA Tournament championship just over two months ago. Virginia Tech fell to eventual national champion LSU 79-72 in the semifinals. The Tigers went on to beat Iowa 102-85 in the title game.
Iowa returns sharpshooter Caitlin Clark, who won numerous national player of the year awards last season when she averaged 27.8 points, 8.6 assists and 7.1 rebounds per game. She led the nation in assists and ranked second n scoring.
The Hokies return Elizabeth Kitley, an All-American and two-time ACC Player of the Year, who averaged 18.2 points and 10.7 rebounds per game last season, plus star guard Georgia Amoore, making this one of the premier nonconference matchups of the 2023-24 season.
