On Wednesday, ESPN and the ACC announced kickoff times and TV designations for the first three weeks of the 2023 college football season, along with non-weekend games. Information for four Virginia Tech games was released:
Saturday, Sept. 2 vs. Old Dominion — 8 p.m. ET, ACC Network
Saturday, Sept. 9 vs. Purdue — 12 p.m. ET, ESPN2
Saturday, Sept. 16 at Rutgers — 3:30 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network
Thursday, Oct. 26 vs. Syracuse — 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
The Hokies open their season against the Monarchs on Sept. 2. They're 2-0 against ODU in Lane Stadium with wins in 2017 and 2019.
Sept. 9 marks the second-ever matchup between the Hokies and Purdue. The Boilermakers, fresh off their Big Ten West Division title, venture to Southwest Virginia for a return trip from when Virginia Tech traveled to West Lafayette, Ind. in 2015. Frank Beamer & Co. won that game 51-24.
The Hokies and Rutgers met 12 times as Big East members, a series VT won 11-1. Virginia Tech ventures to Piscataway, N.J. on Sept. 16; the Scarlet Knights will return the favor in 2024. It'll be Tech's first football game on the Big Ten Network, too.
Syracuse comes to Blacksburg for a Thursday night clash in October, which will feature on ESPN. The Hokies and Orange have never played a non-Saturday contest; Tech's lost four of the last five in the series, including the 2021 meeting at home.
