On Friday morning, Virginia Tech announced the signing of Michigan State wing Matilda Ekh (6-0). She has two years of eligibility remaining.

A native of Västerås, Sweden, Ekh spent two seasons with the Spartans, recording 695 points. She averaged 11.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as a sophomore this year. She's a two-time All-Big Ten Honorable Mention who is lethal from behind the arc.
A 39% 3-point shooter, she's 138-of-354 from long range in her career. This season, she shot 38.5% from deep, a mark that ranked sixth in the Big Ten and 52nd in the country. She averaged 2.4 treys per game, which was fourth in the conference.
Ekh joins a backcourt with plenty of firepower. Georgia Amoore and Cayla King have 470 3-pointers under their belts; add in Ekh and the trio has 608 threes in their careers (on 1,612 attempts — 37.7%). They're on pace to combine for over 880 triples by the time their careers are over. In 2022-23, they made 267. Here's a quick breakdown:
Amoore: 245-of-661 (37.1%); 2022-23: 118-of-342 (34.5%)
King: 225-of-597 (37.7%); 2022-23: 80-of-213 (37.6%)
Ekh: 138-of-354 (39.0%); 2022-23: 69-of-179 (38.5%)
Ekh should complement King and Amoore nicely. She's solid on the defensive end with 48 steals in two seasons, and she's another option offensively that teams have to keep an eye on. Those three have over 8,100 career minutes at the D-I level, too.
Ekh earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team accolades in 2021-22 after averaging 11.8 points per game. She also has some experience playing with the Swedish National Team — in the FIBA Women's EuroBasket tournament in 2021, she made five appearances, averaging 3.2 points, 1.0 rebound and 11.1 minutes per game. She was the Rookie of the Year in the Swedish First League in 2019-20. Moreover, she won the U-19 Swedish Championship with her high school team and was named MVP.
Ekh is the third addition in a week for Virginia Tech and Kenny Brooks, joining Minnesota's Alanna Micheaux and Wake Forest's Olivia Summiel. She and Micheaux both have two years of eligibility remaining, too, as does Amoore. With Ekh in the fold, the Hokies have 11 scholarship players for 2023-24, leaving four open roster spots:
