On Saturday evening, Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from Minnesota transfer Alanna Micheaux. She has two years of eligibility remaining.
A 6-2 forward from Wayne, Mich., Micheaux spent two seasons with the Gophers, playing in 58 games with 44 starts. She started all 30 games in 2022-23, averaging 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. She earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors while her mark on the boards ranked fourth in the conference.
Micheaux led the team in rebounding (236), blocks (22) and free throw attempts (105) this season in Minneapolis. She posted nine double-doubles, including a stretch of five in seven games between late January and early February.
There were only eight games where she did not score in double figures; her season-high 31 points came in January at Penn State. She hit a 52% clip from the floor, too. However, she did not attempt a 3-pointer in two seasons with Minnesota, so she's specifically an interior presence.
As a freshman in 2021-22, Micheaux played in 30 games, starting 16, and averaged 4.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. She was efficient from the floor, hitting 66% of her field goals (63-of-95).
After losing Taylor Soule and D'asia Gregg, the Hokies needed to reload in the frontcourt to complement All-American center Elizabeth Kitley. Micheaux should be one of the key pieces to Tech's 2023-24 puzzle.
With the addition of Micheaux, the Hokies have nine scholarship players for the upcoming season. That roster includes four frontcourt players: Kitley, Micheaux and top-100 freshmen Carys Baker (6-1) and Clara Strack (6-4). Virginia Tech has six open scholarships remaining to fill out its roster.
