Transfer WR, Middle Tennessee

Virginia Tech picked up a wide receiver commit from the transfer portal in the form of Jaylin Lane, who entered the portal from Middle Tennessee just two days ago. He is a native of Clover, SC.

Lane is a pure slot receiver who caught 69 passes for 940 yards and five touchdowns in 2022, averaging 13.6 yards per catch. He had four catches for 130 yards against Miami back in September. In 2021, Lane had 42 receptions for 466 yards and four touchdowns. He caught four passes for 30 yards against the Hokies in Lane Stadium.

Lane can also be used in the running game, with 14 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown during his career. He’s also an option in the return game. Lane has averaged 12 yards on 38 career punt returns, including one touchdown. He’s also averaged 22 yards per kickoff return over the last three seasons.

Lane has two seasons of eligibility remaining. At 5-8, 183, he projects to play in the slot for Virginia Tech, though he was mostly an outside receiver at Middle Tennessee.

Lane is the third wide receiver addition from the transfer portal for the Hokies this offseason, joining Ali Jennings (Old Dominion) and Da'Quan Felton (Norfolk State). That puts Virginia Tech up to 15 scholarship wideouts and 91 total scholarships, 47 on the offensive side of the ball.
