Basketball season begins in just under two months and the ACC released its women's schedule at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning. After ending its season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year, Virginia Tech opens the season against Mount St. Mary’s on Nov. 7 and begins conference play at Boston College on Dec. 7.
The Hokies have a few competitive non-conference matchups that were previously announced. They'll get a rematch with Tennessee in Knoxville on Dec. 4 (ESPN2) as part of the Jimmy V Classic. Tech also sees Kentucky (Nov. 21) and Missouri (Nov. 23) in the Pink Flamingo Championship in the Bahamas. On top of that, Nebraska ventures to town on Dec. 1 for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Schedule Rotation
Unlike the men's basketball teams and their scheduling matrix, the women's side uses pods. Virginia Tech is in a five-team pod with Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia, meaning they all play each other twice each season. Here's the rotation for the other ten schools, listed in order of when the Hokies play each program:Away only: Boston College, Clemson, Miami, Pitt, Georgia Tech

Tech landed some of the top transfers in the portal in Ashley Owusu (Maryland) and Taylor Soule (Boston College). They join a rotation of Elizabeth Kitley, Georgia Amoore, Cayla King and Kayana Traylor, and the Hokies have a shot to be one of the top teams in the conference and the country.
Virginia Tech, who is projected to finish near or at the top of the ACC, faces NC State twice: in Raleigh on Feb. 6 and in Blacksburg on Feb. 19. Louisville, who routed the Hokies in Kentucky last season, comes to Cassell Coliseum on Jan. 12 – a week before students return to campus.
In the span when students are home for winter break (Dec. 14-Jan. 17), the Hokies host Notre Dame, North Carolina, Virginia and the aforementioned Cardinals. That's a more difficult home stretch than the men's team, which has Grambling State, Clemson and NC State while the students are gone.
Last season, head coach Kenny Brooks called his team “the most talented he’s had” in his time at Tech. There’s no denying that this team could be even better. That group will be tested in the month of February. Here's how the final six games shake out:
- Two games in 13 days against NC State, who swept the Hokies in three meetings last season. The Wolfpack finished the 2021-22 season at No. 2 in the NET after winning their third consecutive ACC Tournament in Greensboro.
- Florida State (No. 55 in the 2021-22 NET) comes to town on Feb. 12. A historically solid program, Tech beat the Seminoles by 17 in Tallahassee last year.
- A second game with Duke (No. 52), this time at home. The Hokies had the Blue Devils' number in 2021-22, winning two games by a combined 33 points.
- A second game against North Carolina (No. 6), who Virginia Tech split with last year in the regular season. And who could forget the overtime drama in the ACC Tournament? This late-season matchup comes on Feb. 23 in Chapel Hill, and the away team won both contests in 2021-22.
- The Hokies close their season out at Georgia Tech (No. 33). In their one meeting last year in Cassell Coliseum, VT won by ten, 73-63.
