Mike Young picked up his first commitment of the 2023 men’s basketball recruiting class on Friday when Georgia point guard Brandon Rechsteiner announced his decision to attend Virginia Tech.
Rechsteiner is currently rated as the No. 9 player in Georgia and the No. 24 overall point guard in the country by 247Sports. However, his stock could certainly rise after he blew up during the most recent evaluation period.
Young’s staff was one of the first to see him play this summer and almost immediately offered. Virginia Tech’s offer was quickly followed by offers from Clemson, Miami, Tennessee, LSU and Notre Dame. He also held previous offers from Georgia Tech, Xavier, Dayton, Northwestern, Kansas State, along with many others.
Known for his shooting ability, Rechsteiner is projected to play the point guard position for the Hokies. His father is the former professional wrestler known as Scott Steiner.
With his commitment, here's a breakdown of Virginia Tech men's basketball's scholarship outlook. As of July, the Hokies have ten scholarship players for 2023-24, leaving three available. Hunter Cattoor and Grant Basile also have a COVID year of eligibility they could choose to use.
