Virginia Tech running back Jalen Hampton has entered the transfer portal, according to a report by Andy Bitter of The Athletic.
Hampton was originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class. He redshirted in 2021 after being enrolled in 2020 (which didn’t count due to COVID). He participated in spring practice under new head coach Brent Pry, but failed to make his way up the depth chart. Both running backs from the 2020 class – Hampton and Jalen Brunson – have now entered the transfer portal.
Running back Marco Lee is also in the portal.
With Hampton’s decision, Virginia Tech’s running back room now looks like this in terms of seniority…
Jalen Holston (r-Sr.)
Keshawn King (Jr.)
Malachi Thomas (So.)
Chance Black (r-Fr.)
Kenji Christian (r-Fr.)
Bryce Duke (Fr.)
Running backs coach Stu Holt said before spring practice began that his ideal number of running backs on the roster was six, and now the Hokies are at six.
