Virginia Tech Football signed three more recruits today to round out their 2022 recruiting class to 24* total signees. The three signees consisted of two long-time commitments -- OL Xavier Chaplin and TE Daequan Wright -- as well as newly-committed ATH Devin Alves, who verballed to the Hokies yesterday and signed today.
Editor's note: For those curious about the difference between Tech Sideline's number (24) and Tech's number (23) of signees, "there’s a military component to defensive lineman Malachi Madison’s scholarship that allows him to count as a walk-on," per Mike Niziolek of the Roanoke Times in late January. TSL will continue to list the Hokies with 24 signees for the 2022 class.
As of the time of this writing (2 p.m., Feb. 2, 2022), Virginia Tech's 2022 recruiting class is ranked No. 32 in the nation and No. 5 in the ACC in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. This represents a significant improvement from the 2021 class (No. 44 nationally, No. 10 ACC) and the 2020 class (No. 76 nationally, No. 14 ACC). The Hokies' average player ranking per 247Sports has risen from 84.98 in 2020 to 85.12 in 2021 and to 86.28 this year.
