Virginia Tech picked up its second commitment of the day and the ninth of the 2022 class when Greensboro linebacker Xavier Simmons made his pledge on Saturday evening. He plays for Northwest Guilford, the same high school as Tre Turner.
Simmons is ranked as a 4-star recruit, the No. 190 player nationally and the No. 7 player in the state of North Carolina by 247 Sports. He is listed with 14 scholarship offers, including UNC, NC State, Oklahoma and South Carolina.
Simmons becomes the highest-ranked recruit thus far of the 2022 class. Tech’s 2022 class is currently projected to rise to No. 25 in the country with today's commitments. Simmons is projected to play either mike or backer for the Hokies.
