Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from Illinois State transfer cornerback Devin Taylor on Friday afternoon.  Taylor, who just entered the transfer portal earlier this week, was a First Team All-Missouri Valley selection, and he was regarded as one of the top FCS cornerbacks in the country.  He was also a Phil Steele Third Team FCS All-American in 2019.

Taylor entered the portal on Thursday as a result of the Missouri Valley Conference announcing that they would not play football this fall.  The Hokies were quick to go in with a scholarship offer, and Taylor was quick to accept.

Taylor led the Missouri Valley in passes defended in 2018 and 2019, with 18 as a redshirt sophomore and 24 as a redshirt junior.  He has nine career interceptions.  At 6-1, 200, he is considered a long and physical cornerback, and he’s expected to compete for playing time immediately at Virginia Tech.  He is eligible in 2020 after graduating from Illinois State this past summer.
