Rising redshirt sophomore defensive end Jaevon Becton has been suspended from the football program, per a press release from the athletic department on Wednesday morning.

Becton played in 11 games as a redshirt freshman in the 2019 season, recording a total of 198 snaps. Over half of those snaps, 101 to be exact, came in the first two games of the season with starting left end TyJuan Garbutt out injured. His playing time for the rest of the season was dramatically reduced with Garbutt and fellow redshirt freshman left end Eli Adams in the lineup. Becton recorded 12 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.
Becton is from Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, VA.
Becton has already been removed from Virginia Tech's online roster, and his future status remains unclear. If he misses the season, as things stand now Tech's top four defensive ends would again be Garbutt (r-Jr.), Emmanuel Belmar (r-Sr.), Jaylen Griffin (r-Jr.) and Eli Adams (r-So.). The Hokies are also pursuing Youngstown State graduate transfer Justus Reed, who has one year of eligibility remaining.
