Rumors have been swirling around Virginia Tech cornerbacks Jeremy Webb and Adonis Alexander recently. On Friday, those rumors were confirmed. Webb is out for the season after damaging his left Achilles, while Alexander is no longer a member of the football program.
Webb is a 4-star JUCO prospect who was expected to start immediately for the Hokies. However, he injured his Achilles in his very first workout with the team, and will miss the season. He is eligible for a redshirt.
“While we share Jeremy’s disappointment that he will miss the 2018 season, our medical staff is confident that he will make a complete recovery,” Fuente said. “We look forward to Jeremy beginning the rehab process as soon as possible.”
Alexander has been in and out of the doghouse during his Virginia Tech career, and he was not participating in team activities at the end of spring practice due to academics. While the press release did not specifically say that Alexander is going to transfer, Justin Fuente made it sound as if he will not be returning.
“We wish Adonis the very best as he determines the next steps he wishes to pursue,” Fuente said.
The loss of Webb and Alexander means the Hokies will be without their two projected starters at cornerback for the 2018 season.
