Cam Phillips has played his last game in a Virginia Tech uniform.
Virginia Tech announced on Tuesday that Phillips, a senior wide receiver, has undergone surgery to repair a sports hernia and will not play in the Camping World Bowl vs. Oklahoma State on Dec. 28.

Phillips will go down as one of the best wide receivers in Virginia Tech history. His 236 receptions and 3,027 receiving yards are both the highest marks in school history. Phillips has 17 career touchdown receptions, which is sixth all-time in program history.
The 2017 season didn't go as planned for Phillips, thanks to a foot injury sustained vs. Boston College. The injury lingered through the second half of the season, slowing Phillips and the Virginia Tech offense down. Still, Phillips caught 71 passes for 964 yards and seven touchdowns and led the Hokies in receiving by a wide margin.
Virginia Tech will now move on without Phillips, who has been a mainstay on the offense since starting as a freshman in 2014. The Tech passing attack struggled in the latter half of the season, even with a hobbled Phillips in the lineup. Now, freshman Sean Savoy, sophomore Eric Kumah and others will be forced to pick up the slack.
