No. 13 Virginia Tech's September 30 matchup with No. 2 Clemson has been the game Tech fans have circled on their calendars since the schedule was released. Now, Hokies fans have yet another reason to be excited about that matchup.
The ACC announced the kickoff times and TV coverage for Sept. 30 games on Monday afternoon. ABC has selected the Hokies-Tigers matchup for an 8 p.m. kickoff. Assuming both teams win their matchups this weekend against Boston College and Old Dominion, this will be one of the 2017 season's most anticipated matchups.
Virginia Tech has not played a Saturday night home game in Lane Stadium since the No. 11 Hokies were defeated by the No. 13 Tigers back on Oct. 1, 2011, though that was only a 6pm game on ESPN2.
Jackson, Phillips Win More Accolades
Redshirt-freshman Josh Jackson was named ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday morning following his impressive performance in Virginia Tech's 64-17 win at East Carolina. He was 24-of-31 for 372 yards, with five touchdowns and no interceptions. It was the second time in three weeks that he's earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, with the WVU game being the other.
Senior wide receiver Cam Phillips caught a school-record 14 passes on Saturday, for a total of 189 yards and three touchdowns. He is one of the nation's top receivers through the first three games of the 2017. He was named ACC Wide Receiver of the Week for the second time this season as a result of his most recent dominating performance. Like Jackson, his previous award came following the West Virginia game.
