Suspended Virginia Tech linebacker Tavante Beckett has been charged with possession of marijuana and conspiracy to sell or distribute marijuana.

The online court database for Virginia shows that Tavante Dashae Beckett was charged on August 23 with the conspiracy to sell or distribute marijuana, and was arrested for that charge on Monday, Sept. 11. Beckett was also charged on Monday with possession of marijuana. Beckett's court date for both charges is scheduled for Sept. 22 at 8:30 a.m.

Conspiracy to sell or distribute marijuana is listed as either a Class 1 misdemeanor or a Class 5 felony, depending on the amount of marijuana. In Beckett's case, he was charged with a felony. Beckett was suspended on Monday, presumably after his arrest, from all team activities.
