Virginia Tech head football coach Justin Fuente opened today's press conference by announcing that Josh Jackson will be Virginia Tech's starting quarterback to open the 2017 season.

Fuente said in subsequent comments that AJ Bush currently leads as the No. 2 quarterback, which would make true-freshman Hendon Hooker a strong redshirt candidate.
Jackson is from Ann Arbor, Mich. and signed with the Hokies as part of the 2016 recruiting class. His father is Fred Jackson, a long-time college assistant coach (including from 1992-2014 with Michigan) and current head coach at Ypsilanti High School in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan.
Josh Jackson redshirted in the 2016 and will be a redshirt-freshman for the 2017 season, with four years of eligibility.
Jackson was surprised by the announcement.
