Virginia Tech track and field put together a championship-caliber performance over the weekend, as the men's and women's teams claimed conference titles at the 2017 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Georgia Tech.
This is the first season that Virginia Tech has won both championships since joining the ACC in the 2004-2005 academic year.
The titles give Virginia Tech's track and field program 13 overall conference championships in school history. The men's team held off Virginia by one point, while the women's team finished six points ahead of second-place Florida State. Both teams entered the final races in second places, but a second place finish for the women and a third place finish for the men sealed both titles.
The wins also gave Virginia Tech it's first Commonwealth Clash win over in-state rival Virginia. The Commonwealth Clash, sponsored by Virginia529, is a head-to-head competition between the schools in the 22 sports that each school sponsors. It's the first Clash win for Virginia Tech since 2014.
