Virginia Tech Recruiting Update: Hokies Pick Up Commitments From Wheatley, Holston

It was quite the weekend for Virginia Tech recruiting, as the Hokies hosted roughly a dozen recruits for visits this past weekend. Signing Day is quickly approaching and teams across the country are filling up their final slots in their classes.

Here's what you need to know from last week in Virginia Tech recruiting.

Holston, Wheatley commit to Virginia Tech

Holston was Virginia Tech's top running back target in this class. Holston is a 3-star back based off of the 247Sports Composite rating. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound recruit has been a Virginia Tech-lean for a long time and it was important for the Hokies to close on his recruitment.

Wheatley was a recent offer by the Hokies. Wheatley had been prepping at Fork Union this season. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound recruit is the son of former NFL running back and current Michigan assistant Tyrone Wheatley. Though Wheatley's future position at Virginia Tech is unclear, you can expect him to make an impact.

Hokies host Hunter, several others on official visits

Here is a list of uncommitted recruits who visited over the weekend:  safety Devon Hunter, defensive tackle Victor Dimukeje, defensive end Nathan Proctor, athlete Markquese Bell, defensive tackle Xach Gill, cornerback Ameer Speed

Here is the list of committed recruits who visited: athlete Kalil Pimpleton, wide receiver Sean Savoy, linebacker Aundre Kearney, athlete Dalton Keene, offensive lineman Aiden Brown, athlete Terius Wheatley

Penn State commitment Dylan Rivers also visited this past weekend.

First off, props to the Virginia Tech coaching staff for bringing in a bunch of commitments to help sway the visitors. Pimpleton has been actively recruiting other players since committing in May 2016.

Now let's break down the visitors.

Devon Hunter: At this point, if Hunter goes elsewhere it's not on Virginia Tech. The Hokies have poured everything they have into Hunter's recruitment. You can be sure they rolled out the red carpet for him this weekend.

Victor Dimukeje and Xach Gill: I'm not sure if there's room for both of these kids. Gill will decide on Dec. 19 and will be choosing between Tech and North Carolina. Duke seems to be the biggest competitor for Dimukeje, who is big on academics.

Nathan Proctor: Proctor still has official visits to UCLA, Penn State and Ole Miss, but the Hokies should feel good about their position with Proctor. A haul of Proctor and Garbutt at defensive end would be pretty terrific.

Ameer Speed: Speed traveled with Kearney for his visit, which should bode well for the Hokies. Michigan State, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee are all schools to watch. Speed is expected to commit on Signing Day.

Markquese Bell: Bell is 6-foot-3, 194-pound athlete from New Jersey. The Hokies are in contention alongside Maryland, Rutgers and Ohio State. Bell should announce at the Under Armour All-American Game.

Dylan Rivers: Virginia Tech has been pushing for a while to flip Rivers from Penn State. I'm not sure how much the Hokies moved the needle this weekend, but Tech is already filling up at linebacker.

Becton to announce a top five

Virginia Tech should be in Becton's top five. The Hokies have been recruiting him hard since the beginning. That being said, I'm not sure I would have the Hokies in the driver's seat.

Porcher IV decommits from Nebraska

Porcher, a Florida native, seems to want to stay close to home. Even if Porcher is interested in Virginia Tech, I don't think the Hokies are. Tech is moving on multiple fronts on the defensive line and there are only so many seats on the train.
