This past Sunday the Hokies secures their first verbal commitment for the class of 2018, when Mitch Moore picked the Hokies.

The #12/#17 nationally ranked (intermat/flo) Ohio native chose Tech over his in-state program Ohio State. Moore projects to the 133/141 weight classes (with my money on 133. He has the potential to start as a true freshman.) Fans of the program will recognize Moore's brother Brent who joined the team this fall. Mitch also continues the tradition of St. Paris Graham wrestlers at VT with Nick Brascetta as the most recent graduate of that lineage.  Moore enters his junior season a 2X state champ in Ohio and his bid to become a 4X champ remains intact. He should become the core of a very critical 2018 recruiting class. Welcome Mitch!

But the Hokies weren’t done.  Late Tuesday evening, through a cryptic tweet written to avoid NCAA violations, Coach Kevin Dresser announced another wrestling commitment from the state of NJ.

Subsequently Josh Lowe of Intermat broke the news that Mekhi Lewis of Bound Brook NJ had committed to the Hokies.

Lewis, the #51/#51 (Intermat/flo) ranked wrestler nationally in the class of 2017 rounds out an impressive recruiting class that already boasts John Borst, Cole Manley and Hunter Bolen.  Recruiting sites have projected Lewis to 157/165 in college and it is likely he could compete for time at 157 upon the departure of transfer Ryan Blees.  Lewis carries some sterling credentials in his time wrestling in NJ, with 3 state medals, and looks poised to repeat his performance last year as a NJ state champ.  Welcome to Hokie Nation Mekhi!
