Recruiting can be hard to follow for the average fan, as well as those who pay close attention to the team. So to keep up with things, I’ll be putting together a weekly update of Virginia Tech recruiting, with commitments and general updates.

The biggest news surrounding Virginia Tech recruiting last week came on Friday, when Quran Hafiz, a 6-foot-1, 3-star cornerback from Florida committed to Iowa State. Hafiz had narrowed to three schools before Friday, including Iowa State, South Florida and Virginia Tech. Hafiz 32 offers in total, with 10 of those coming from Power 5 programs.

Chesapeake, Va. defensive back Devon Hunter released a top 11 list, including the Hokies.

Hunter, a 4-star prospect from Indian River High School, is one of the best players in the state and would be a big get for Virginia Tech. The Hokies aren’t the only notable program after Hunter. He’s received 29 offers from Power 5 schools, and his top 11 included the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina.

Jordan Williams, also in conversation as one of the best players in Virginia, announced on Twitter that he will make his commitment on August 6. Virginia Tech was named in Williams’ top five, but their order in that list is somewhat unknown. Williams told TechSideline.com that Virginia Tech and Tennessee were tied atop his list just a couple of weeks ago, but has given different information since then to other outlets.

To wrap up the football news, several recruits will be visiting Virginia Tech in the coming weeks. Xach Gill (‘17 DT), Tariq Castro-Fields (‘17 ATH), Artur Sitowski (‘18 QB) and Israel Spivey (‘19 ATH) are all reportedly going to visit sometime in July, while Dylan Hopkins (‘18 QB) is trying to schedule a return visit to Blacksburg in the near future.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker, a 2018 commit for Virginia Tech men’s basketball, was invited to the SC30 Select Camp last week. Alexander-Walker was one of 22 prospects who were invited. The camp, hosted by Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Under Armour, was hosted in the Bay Area and was for the top high school guards in the United States and Canada.
