A 3-star recruit in 2015, Ryan Willis signed with Kansas, where he played during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In 2015, he started the last eight games of the season and threw for a Kansas freshman record 1,719 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2016, he played in seven games and started two. In his Kansas career, Willis played in 17 games, completed 236-of-432 passes, threw for 2,530 yards, 12 TDs and 17 INTs.
