Andy...you're are superb at capturing the essence of game results with human interest insights and unique picture painting phrases like "...that only a lighthouse keeper would like." It was a a hard game to watch with a character revealing outcome. Thanks Andy!

Nice wrap up Andy. Excellent way to capture a slog of a game and point out the adversity aspect. I was thinking the same thing when BC got that last touchdown. This is either where we fold up the tent and go home or we take the bull by the horns and take over. For a decade we have all had to deal with the tent folding but yesterday we rose up and did some bull horn taking. THAT was awesome and for me, makes me a believer because we have the talent AND the coaching now to compete with anyone. now, let’s take care of business Friday!

+1!

Been teaching my class to avoid cliches. Would be a hypocrite if I'd written "raining cats and dogs."
HokieJB
Andy Bitter can paint a picture, huh. "And the blustery, rainy weather only a lighthouse keeper could like ..." Glad he's on our team.
bonedoc
That phrase caught my eye immediately, great analogy.

Thanks Will. Yes if VT could never have another game on CW that would be AMAZING!!!
Great job Andy. Article was very informative and concise and made me feel I was there in person. It looked almost like the away game at Carolina I was at several years ago. I still have water in my boots😉
Go Hokies🏈🎉
HokieDelNorte
That was Andy.

What about our one-score win-lose record? Did this break a streak or no?
hokiepro
We won both our ACC games last year by one score. At NCSU and in OT VS Cal
Spartacusjones
Culture. Every coach talks about it, but Franklin has poured it into this team. His comment about fundamentals stands out when you watch how this team plays. They clearly believe.
This game was tough to watch, but in the end, one can't help but feel they have passed yet another test. So far, this season is like a video game where you have to fight thru increasingly difficult levels. On to the next level.
Having TV cut off the last 2 minutes was beyond cruel. I admit to having a few frantic moments before I head the final score. What a game!

Who is #11 in VT, who appeared very fast in Overton Touchdown. He was blocking defenders, and giving Overton a clear path to TD.
thomash05
That would be true freshman wide receiver Davion "FatRat" Brown.
JC in FC
That guy is for real. Now I know why the coaches keep saying we have to get him on the field.

Davion “Fatrat “ Brown

I noticed that too

Thanks for another great article.
Now to swell your head. It never ceases to amaze me how, after all the articles you've written as a beat writer, you can continue to write fresh stories. Although, this year's fresh start team probably makes things a little easier, compared to the losing teams of the last few years.
Andy Bitter
You’re too kind

You're awsesome Andy...keep up the great work! After Overton ran 76 yards for the score....I heard Bunk off in the distance saying "Sheeeeeit"!
Tidewater Hillbilly
Oooo... Aidan MIGHT have had a little too much jersey in-hand but what an awesome shot of the start of Jeffrey's scamper!
Boblope
Ghanam too. He likely held #1 (that LB that was all over the field for BC all day).
Took him to the ground as Overton scooted through the hole.
George Baylor
#13's block (Hairston) is what gave Overton the space and then open field. One of the best blocks since Wayne Ward's GOAT against W Va years ago.
IMO, Overton should be RB1, but in any case give him multiple carries.
Mapmaker
Remember that Wayne Ward block well. That WV linebacker had been playing a good game before but he was removed from his shoes with the hit from that Mack truck. I can still hear the crowd response and then the TD on the return only increased the roar. One of my favorite games.
Hoping we can see/hear some of that magic Friday night
McHokie78
You could call holding on almost every play.
naynay136
Thanks Andy, great insights as always. I think the Hokies should be ranked after this week but, to your point, not sure this win will get the respect it deserves. That’s fine - if we take care of business against Pitt on Friday it will be really hard for folks to ignore us.
ToledoHokie
Being ranked doesn’t matter at all, I just as soon hope we aren’t ranked…..gives us more motivation to prove we are for real.
As great a win as this was, we still haven’t beaten any really good teams…..yet.
mwills98
Yep, just keep beating the ones we have in front of us and everything else will take care of itself.
Will Stewart
This is a silly statement. Being ranked absolutely DOES matter. It means you get to squeeze onto the main ESPN networks -- provided Disney decides to detach from the SEC's caboose and actually show teams from other conferences, always a dicey proposition -- and thus get better ratings, and thus make more money under the ACC's new TV revenue sharing arrangement.
Bigger network = better ratings = a bigger slice of the ACC's meager TV money pie.
HardTimes
Thanks for shedding light to those who do not realize We want the better TV slots !!! $$$$$
saw14unc
We've been wandering around in the wilderness for about 15 years now. Fans should be clamoring for anything that shed's a positive national spotlight on the program and brings in additional revenue. Eschewing the rankings for motivational purposes is not how you get the program back to where we all believe it should be. Don't be afraid of success and relish the expectations that it brings. Even if the team fails on occassion over time VT will be a much better program because of it.
middletennhokie
Will speaks truth, especially the incestuous relationship of the $EC and ESPN!
SmithDM07
Very well said and information EVERYONE needs to know. It’s no longer the land wear
everyone in the conference gets the same
amount of money.
HokieDelNorte
Agree. Maryland win looks a bit suspect now too.
VTCC 65
Holding & pass interference should not be penalties. It’s a rough game. Just fight through it. Players will adapt with counter techniques. The “ penalties” are too subjective & could be called on every play. Just let them play like we did on playgrounds. Don’t allow refs to decide game outcomes.
