Greene has to get open to get the ball…he hasn’t done a good job of doing that yet.

Historically UMD win their early non conference games, and we're playing on their turf. This one concerns me. They have only been mediocre once they get into B1G play.

   Kudos for VTKATT's question.

Why would folks think beating a 4-8 UMD team is such a great accomplishment? Now, if we take a 3pt spread and win by 3 scores, that might mean something but a lot of folks called for us to be 4-0 so it should be status quo.

I can speak only for me, but I'm so scarred by the past few years of losses and incompetence that it's just a little hard to believe that the Hokies are finally a legit team. My head and my eyes say they're legit and should beat MD, but my poor beaten-up psyche isn't quite yet on board.

I’m with you DW. Let’s see what happens when they get punched in the mouth.

Old wounds are starting to heal. Sticking by 9-3…as long as we cut down on the bubble screens.

That's what a new coach will do for a team. I have complete confidence in this coaching staff, whereas, in past years I didn't. Too many people play the game where they look at what has happened in the past. Look at the players we have now, A lot of transfers who have experience and a new coach who will demand perfection. I could do without all of the negativity that a lot of posters put out. Support your team with positive thoughts until you see that it is useless. To predict what the rest of the season will look like after 2 games is utterly ridiculous. Who knows what the future will bring in the next 3 months. I've seen it before where Tech has been labeled as good as dead but some how rose to the top. Give it a try! let the chips fall where they may. I expect though that a lot of posters will call for Franklins head the moment he slips and loses. It always happens with the so-called HOKIE fans but a true fan will support the team.

You just have to trust what is happening in Blacksburg. I went to two practices. This is a “Different” group. They expect to win. They are deep at most positions. OL will improve as season moves along. We are fast on both sides of the ball. Maryland’s QB will be under a lot of pressure. Grunk will too but he gets the ball out fast!!! Hokies by at least 14 points

I think it’s a simple as saying we can beat a mediocre Big Ten team on the road finally. It’s a signal of heading in the right direction compared to our former selves.

I partly concur, but this is the first game that should be a real test. And a win would have VT at 3-0 going into BC. A win in BC (not sure how "good" or "bad" they are) puts VT at 4-0. Some would say VT should be ranked then. Not so fast, beat 2 teams that we should've beat and then 2 teams with a pulse the 4-0 looks good, but against what? What will be the BIG test will be Oct 2 vs PITT. A strong Defense and an experience QB come into Lane on Friday Night - that my friend is when it really counts. That game with a WIN puts Tech not in the top 25 but maybe the top 15. One cannot faulter - look at Michigan they lost to WMU (they did lose regardless of what is posted) and then come back and beat OK at OK. They definitely recovered, but they did faulter. And then Rutger's faulters against Pop Watson & U Mass and follows that up with a loss at BC.

Well, Tech was 3-9. It's on the road. Tech has a poor history against P4 schools. Maryland has a touch QB, good Receiver to through to, and some good D-Ends. I think Tech showed some areas of opportunity for improvement against ODU. Tech didn't rush the ball well, no down field threat on offense, iffy O-Line play, and a bit of a lack of discipline. So yeah, I'm thinking this could be a good game. All that said, yes, Tech should be able to beat Maryland. I do think Franklin is the right man to get it done. I have tickets to the Pitt game and want them to be 4-0! But Vegas has it at a 3 point spread for a reason. it will be a good win when Tech comes away victorious.

I was in the stands last Saturday, and after that spectacular ODU catch where White was also called for interference, even White dapped up the receiver when they lined up against each other for the next play. As Andy put it so well, sometimes you just have to tip your hat...

True. But our cornerbacks need to find the ball. Period.
