Hokies head coach James Franklin returns to a place he knows well this week in Maryland. (Ivan Morozov)
It’s game week, so James Franklin has little time for “This Is Your Life” or hypothetical situations about his career path, but the coach’s connection to Maryland, Virginia Tech’s opponent on Saturday, offers an interesting “What if?” to the matchup.

I'm still peeved at how Maryland ran up the store on a depleted Hokies team during the Pinstripe Bowl. I hope Franklin delivers payback.

I hope Franklin makes Locksley mad again - for old time sake!

Great read with excellent information. This away game will be a real test for a team growing every day. Our tight ends will make the difference, helping our defense catch a breath! Go Hokies!

Nah. Talk it then walk it.
We gotta stop trying to be the nice noble team. Talk shat, back it up, punch some guys, run up the score. This is the program of Corey Moore and DeAngelo Hall and Rowell Whittaker and Michael Vick. Let’s act like it.

Ronyell Whittaker I believe.

You are correct, but it would not surprise me if this were a spell check thing... no edit feature for these comments.

Hall's tenure at VT (2001-2003) was not a high point. Too much trash talking and too little success (26-13). Those were not lunch pail teams.

Frank Solich was fired for a 9 win season when he succeeded Tom Osborne. Nebraska hasn't recovered yet.

My first love was the Heisman winning Johnny Rodgers era at Nebraska. Back then I only got 2 games a week on TV, Nebraska got some air time and VT was never shown. My heart still sinks with the Cornhusker misfortunes for the last 25 years.

Nebraska showed us that we had a way to go to be a really good college football team. If I remember correctly, we beat Texas in 1995 Sugar Bowl (what a sweet win) and were really riding high. The next year we played Nebraska in the Orange bowl and although we played them close in the first half they scored about 24 points in the second half and dominated us. I was at both games and remember Frank being overly impressed with Nebraska. Even in Techs great year 1999, after losing the championship to FSU the USA Today/ESPN poll had FSU number 1 and Nebraska number 2 Tech 3. Nebraska was winning championships back then.
