Ummm. Ozark bruh. Got to be on there. Also Lioness currently in its 3rd season is freakin awesome! Mayor of Kingstown also rules. And Peaky Blinders. Oh and I started watching The Wire based on your recommendation. Great article Andy! The Americans is the glaring ommission. If you never saw it just watch the first episode. Same strong hook as episode 1:1 of Breaking Bad Never got into The Wire (I should), but it's Baltimore predecessor Homicide: Life on the Streets was brilliant.

Fargo. The TV show. People don't talk about it enough. New and incredible cast/story every season (how did they get all these people to be in this show?!). 93% Rotten Tomatoes. Plug for Shrinking also, since Andy seems to have my sense of humor (Simpsons and Seinfeld)

Great format, no changes needed. As someone who lives far from Blacksburg and doesn't get back to visit as often as desired, I enjoy the occasional local non-football tidbits, like the tip on Buddy's. A regular food/beverage/event comment or tip could be fun. As for shows: West Wing - highly entertaining and revolutionary for filming with constant movement; sticking with the White House theme, House of Cards - though a certain actor's demise takes the shine off; and Shameless - a bit more of the dramedy category, but Lip Gallagher comes surprisingly close to being a "prequel" character to Carmy in The Bear.

1) Love the article, love the side thoughts. But then, I never not love what you put out. 2) On the topic of 1), what is the writing equivalent of "I could listen to you read the phone book?" Even when I don't completely agree with what you say, I enjoy how you say it (and write it!). I think it's fun to hear about off topic thoughts, because I get more clues to the context you're coming from when you're talking about Hokies sports. Please keep those coming! 3) You feel like the "Head cocked, eyebrow raised, sideye-given, asking 'really?!?'" person in the room. I think everyone needs this. I think journalists need to *be* this. So thanks for this, and for everything. I will religiously read it all.

My issue with a lot of these series is that they are shot over multiple years. I watch a lot of season 1's and I almost never watch season 2 because it was two or three years ago and I've lost interest.

Deadwood was good. I liked Rome, that was fascinating, and contributed to us thinking about the Empire as often as we apparently do. Landman will be on the list in the future. Love the format.

Andy: Great article, keep them coming. I particularly enjoyed your non-VT sports commentary. I don't have time to follow the micro-dramas at schools like TCU and LSU during the offseason, but I'm totally here for the Cliff Note's version to get me caught up. If you ever listen to the Solid Verbal (and I know they interviewed you at least once), they follow an ethos of embracing the weirdness and quirks of college football. Ten "think I thinks" is plenty of space to cover VT and other random weirdness (or just compelling storylines) from around the country.

Glad you excluded B of B, any reference to that series makes me "tear up" and go into a 36 hour state of abject sadness. Agree with GOT, but a bit old school Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue were some strong candidates as well, just could not stream them in a weekend in their day. I would also put West Wing in the category. Currently Sugar and Lucky are strong front runners. I really like the 10 things idea and will look forward to Tuesdays. I enjoy some of your increasingly "experienced" takes on sports subjects and especially college sports. Between you and Teel, there is a lot of journalistic prowess available with TSL.

“Deadwood” is hands down the best of all time. Ian McShane plays the main character Al Swearengen. His performance was unbelievable. It only ran for 2 or 3 seasons which was a travesty. The Sopranos was great too but Deadwood was brilliant.

Sopranos is the GOAT drama. Justified, Succession, and Ozark are awesome. One drama series I haven't seen mentioned is Billions. Great ensemble cast.

On your number 8, I can't see the issue with players who get cut returning to college. If college players are getting paid, they are professionals. College is essentially the minor league of professional football, though the colleges pay the players. The horse has left the barn on amateur athletics. These aren't college guys playing football for the most part. They are professional athletes who haven't made it to the top of their profession yet. I'm curious how the courts will handle this going forward. The whole thing reminds me of the line from Casablanca about being shocked that there is gambling going on here. In this case, everyone seems to be saying they are shocked that professionals are trying to get paid as much as they can. And that there are incentives to pay them in college no matter what their resume says.

Great format - I will really look forward to that weekly article. "Suicide Squad" for LSU coaches made me laugh out loud. Sopranos is tops for me, but some one mentioned 24 and the first few seasons w ere riveting. MASH could be considered as a dramedy. Diplomat is quite good as well.

If you’re into the anti hero stuff, BB/BCS, definitely start The Shield. I’d also include Dexter. Both have multiple story lines often converging, with lots of suspenseful conclusions.

I think I read a couple of the same articles you did from people obviously disliking Coach and even more obviously from his former place of employment. They fired him and still, they want to be so negative towards him. He won a bunch of games with them. This is a school whose legendary coach pulled a Sgt Shultz, "I know nothing" during one of the worst scandals in college football. Now they are in an even bigger mess so were I they, I would probably tone down the narrative and keep my thoughts to myself. I think, I think, I am becoming angry with a school not in our conference.

  Probably Avon. Marlo was ruthless but not charismatic. Stringer was great character but not as smart as he thought he was (as Clay Davis showed). Avon was equal parts ruthless, smart and charismatic. Just what you want from the top guy.

I'm gonna go sci-fi on you for a TV series - Babylon 5. Aired in the mid-late 90's, and was up against Star Trek: Deep Space 9, so it didn't quite get as much attention. But it was one of the first series that had an overarching story arc (well, multiple arcs) that spread over multiple season, and a start, middle and end that were known from the beginning. Well...the last season feels like it's a bit tacked on, because they were supposed to go 5 seasons, told they were only getting 4, so wrapped up the main story, and then *surprise*, got their 5th season and scrambled to get a new story for the last season. It was also one of the first shows to use CGI for all it's special effects (ST:DS9 was still using practical effects). This was 30 years ago, so those effects certainly look dated at this point, but it was pretty groundbreaking at the time.

HBO's Rome belongs on this list. Game of Thrones never would have happened if Rome hadn't come out. It's a great show that unfortunately was way too expensive for its time.

Love the article format, no notes on making any changes. I'm young by TSL standards (late stage millennial), and while I had heard of The Wire and its plaudits, I never took the dive until your last article that mentioned it. Loving it so far. Also am now understanding references that used to go over my head lol. If you're taking TV show recommendations, I would definitely give Succession another shot like you mentioned. You have to push through until you really get a feel for the characters, and after that it really takes off. You said you're not a big fantasy guy, so I would imagine that applies to sci-fi as well; however, I'd be remiss not to do a shameless plug for The Expanse. It's a little cheesy at first (it was originally a SciFi network show before Amazon picked it up) but really rounds into one of those shows where "all the pieces matter."

  For #2, what do you have to lose? All the other ways weren't working. For #6, if it happens and it affects the team (as in someone is dismissed), then yes, it absolutely is the business of outsiders. Fans want to know why someone gets the boot. It's just like when someone is arrested and suspended. Those are actions that affect the actual team, and thus they are newsworthy. If it's Page 6 type stuff, I'll skip that. But this is pertinent roster information.

Two drama series you missed. Six Feet Under - one of the early HBO precursors, along with the Sopranos - to our current golden age of bingable dramas. It was a groundbreaking meditation on death and loss - not something American entertainment and American culture writ large has always been very good at facing - set in a family-owned funeral home. It's sometimes sad, sometimes hilarious - but it's really all about the character arcs. The writing and acting is superb from beginning to end.
