   To whatever extent VMI can benefit from bulletin board material they can get all they want here. I realize the level of mismatch it is, or is supposed to be, but we still have to play. It is silly that the fan base of a team coming off of a 3-9 season can be condescending towards anyone, frankly. I guess visions of (upstart) JMU, (40 point underdog) Temple, and (1981) VMI are circulating in my head. Do I think we could lose? No. Not really. But in football you need to always respect your opponent. I guess VMI beating VT would like Appalachian State going to the big house and beating Michigan. And everyone knows that could never happen. 😎

      The players need to respect the competition, but the fans and media don't. We're more than 50 point favorites in that game, and while we've had our issues with big spreads in the past, it's certainly not condescending to predict that we'll beat them by enough to see some backups in the game. Especially while saying, "if we take care of business". I understand what it is you're trying to say here, but condescending is the wrong word to use.

   Well, the VPI/VMI game used to be a military school rivalry game & they were in the same conference for 40 yrs. (Southern). It was not always a given that Tech would win. As a matter of fact as late as 1981 we lost to them 6-0 in one of the coldest days I ever experienced outdoors. Many may not realize this but there’s actually lots of tradition/history here. From Wikipedia— The VMI–Virginia Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry[1] between the Keydets of Virginia Military Institute and the Hokies of Virginia Tech (formerly known as the Virginia Polytechnic Institute "Fighting Gobblers"). The teams first played in 1894 and last played in 1984. They are scheduled to meet again in 2026, after a 42-year hiatus. The two schools are only about 80 miles apart in western Virginia and were in the same conference (the Southern Conference) from 1924 to 1964. All this said, yes, it’s basically a warmup game this yr. and no one in this program wanted to start the yr. VS. James Madison!

   Nope. Lived in SEC country for 26 years. Even they don't play an essentially D3 team. This game is absurd.

      Sure they do and you don’t have to live in SEC country to see that UT plays ETSU, USCe plays Furman and Bama would play Radford if they had a a team . All SEC schools are notorious for playing very weak OCC teams.

      I do not dispute that VMI is really weak, but your assertion that the SEC doesn’t schedule similar games is absolutely wrong. The following are on the 2026 schedule: Arkansas-Pine Bluff (vs. Missouri): Historically one of the weakest programs in the FCS SWAC conference. North Alabama (vs. Arkansas): A program that has heavily struggled since transitioning to Division I FCS play. Tennessee State (vs. Georgia) Youngstown State (vs. Kentucky) Missouri State (vs. Texas A&M) Austin Peay (vs. Vanderbilt)

   Looking at last year's scheduling question 4, it strikes me that we only played two teams with losing records. And those two teams were South Carolina and Florida State. Two teams that we would normally think of as tougher teams on our schedule.

   Editing suggestion: LB Wiggins began at 200lbs. It was confusing after the rankings at 127. I thought his ranking dropped after he committed. Not a big deal. I love Friday Q&As!

   I agree, us getting embarrassed so badly that the turd that was VT football couldn't be polished anymore was the best thing that could happen! :)

      True that!! Sometimes you got to stink up the joint to begin to tear it down and rebuild. I was nauseous at game 3 last year and was not surprised that a full rebuild was needed. I predict 7-5 this year with a +/- 1 and from what I've seen from others that falls within a 6 sigma curve.

   Yikes....we never stood a chance last year. I knew there was doubt last year about pairing Drones with Montgomery's scheme, but I thought the rub on Siefkes was his lack of experience. Not the scheme itself. Now Pry admits that it wasn't the best scheme for our defensive linemen. I love the Pry's honesty, but he is basically admitting he was coaching for his job and he went into the season with a poor fit at OC and DC. We probably would have fared better had Marve and Bowen remained on staff.

    It is ludicrous that Tech is playing VMI. The Keydets are 15-40 over the last five years in the Southern Conference. I'm sure there is a reasonable "explanation" for this mismatch.

       Have you never heard of a warmup game? SEC schools play thee kinds of matchups all the time - often the week before a rivalry matchup
