   I like your perspective on this. Bottom line is that the program needs to be good enough to keep our donors and fans engaged. We need to continue to fill the stadium, have students want to come here for the overall VT experience including academics (obviously) and, to a much lesser extent, athletics. Not sure what that implies as to the type of coach we need or what level of success we need to achieve on the field. Has to be much improved from where we are today or the local economy will certainly suffer although the university as a whole will likely be fine. Appreciate the article!

   I like what you said, however winning solves almost everything. Just look at Indiana. There's hundreds of articles being written about them weekly, they're getting all kinds of media attention on college game day, and Cignetti is getting attention from almost every sports entertainment group throughout the country. Football is a competition and sports entertainment and winning changes everything that is possible regarding conference realignment, media rights, sponsorships, and so much more. There's no longer "College Programs", it's "College Teams" so whoever is the next coach better be darn good at 2 things.. Talent evaluation and adapting schemes each year to the talent on the roster. Nick Saban was an innovator at changing schemes year to year based on the roster.
