Virginia Tech begins spring practice today, and it seems like the 2024 season just ended. That’s because there’s basically no offseason these days. The “offseason” actually begins before the bowl games, and I mean both the transfer portal and the coaching carousel portions of the offseason. Then the portal ends in mid-January, and in some cases — like the Hokies — coaching changes continue right on up into late February. Then there’s the end of basketball season, of course. In reality, the offseason doesn’t begin until after spring ball closes, but then there’s another transfer portal period, so it’s probably more accurate to say that the offseason doesn’t begin until May.
