I have to give him a B, but this easily could become an A. Montgomery is very seasoned, so he will adjust his temp to fit the personnel. I expect a lot of timely adjustments this year.

I gave the hire an A. I’m not saying Montgomery is the best OC in the nation, but given the timing of the vacancy, limited availability of an experienced OC, the uncertainty of the future of the Pry regime, and the future of Hokie Football in general, I don’t see how Pry could have done any better.

Sounds reasoning here.

Exactly why I rated the hire as an A. Solid reasoning.

I’ll say a B. Solid, experienced hire in a tight time frame when a lot of options were no longer on the market. But a perfect hire would’ve been someone who seems like a more obvious fit with our current personnel.

Being an ex-head coach & an OC is an upgrade. Pry can use both skills in the program. "B"

I voted him a B. I'm very excited about all the new hires. My only fear is that they cannot mesh as a cohesive unit in such a short time. Can they truly be transformative in their teaching/coaching in just 6-9 months?

I'm an optimist, voted B and project that to a 9-3 season, good enough to keep Prye another year.

I’m excited that these new coaches appear to be flexible in their styles that will match the talent they have to work with. For example: I always felt like Bowen wanted to make Drones into a pocket-passer. That’s NOT Drones. Drones became hesitant and unable to do what Drones did best - improvise.
Turk Malloy
That is exactly what Bowen did last year in the beginning. Took losses to revert back to what Drones is good at.

Good article. I liked the tempo of it.

Certainly well paced

Chris wrote a lot of faster articles earlier in his career, but as reading habits have changed, he has definitely slowed the tempo of his analysis.
