First Bank & Trust — Elizabeth Kitley will have her jersey retired. It's only a matter of when. (Jon Fleming)

1) What are the “official” criteria for a VT player to have his/her jersey retired? Do you know what it takes to modify the criteria? Obviously, I’m thinking about Liz Kitley. If it’s not included, I would think that they could add multiple conference player of the year winner and/or multiple All-American awards. It can’t be single-time award winners as that happens too frequently. – VTScanlo

Didn't Nick Saban say one of the reasons he retired is he felt he was losing control? The coaches control the pay? I'm not convinced.

  No. He was in complete control at Alabama. What he didn't like is that he had to do it in the first place. He just wants to coach football, not any of the other stuff.

On your transfer portal list, from the players perspective, I suspect number 3 is first. Skip five spots, then continue the list.

IF Liz Kitley's jersey isn't retired - then all the other jerseys should be taken down. It's that simple. Add in Georgia Amore - and guess what? These women have put VT Women's BB on the map... the Big Map. Do the Cassell sellouts give anyone a clue to their contributions?

Thank you Chris. My wife and I both enjoy your articles but have both been ill struggling with old people issues. I am not a real fan of NIL but like you have said before. I wonder if the Tech admin would let you sit in on the committee meeting where they decide on Liz Kitley just to report on the process? Would be a very interesting inside look.

You're suggesting that the coaching staff is directing where NIL funds go. Is that the realistic view of how these NIL collectives actually work behind the scenes?

  Of course. I've always suggested that. And it absolutely has to be that way. You certainly don't want non-football people deciding who to pay and how much to pay them.
