Jalen Holston was Superman on Saturday, coming up one yard away from the century mark. (Ivan Morozov)
This is the first time in a few weeks that I’ve been able to rewatch a game, take notes, and absorb what I was looking at. It has been even longer since I’ve done that for a win. This edition of MT won’t be full of whimsy, because, since Tech won, I don’t need to amuse you to distract you from a loss. I can just talk about the game.

Thanks for mentioning proper clock management 101. Look at the NCState game and we consistently snapped with 20 seconds, instead of miling the clock. I have to put the blame on the coached, not Wells.

How the tone changes with a 1 point win going our way for a change. One point losses going the other way spelled program disaster, wailing, and great gnashing of teeth to be addressed by immediately sacking Pry and his coaches. Saturday, Pry did exactly what he probably should have done much earlier--run, run, run; work that clock, pass when you really need to, and wear 'em down. Live and learn. Wouldn't it be great to get back to the days of Shyrone Stith, T.D. Lee Suggs, Ken Oxendine, or Kevin Jones?! Would you want to get in front of one of those guys barreling at you up the middle? Hell no!
We will dominate the ACC again someday soon--a little patience and faith in the short-term.
As an aside, it's interesting you noted Norman Dike--I had exactly the same thought. Move forward or bring me Lt. Spears!

Ahem, "Speirs." ?

It was nice to end the season on an upbeat note!
And as long as you’re emphasizing the pronunciation of player names, Will, can you please help us out with hoopster Poteat’s first name? ?

Wells should not be the starting QB next season. I don't know who should, but this game finally convinced me that he's gotta hit the pine.

Totally agree!! Go find someone in the portal or "coach up" the 2 QB's on the depth chart.

I agree with your assessment on Wells. I don’t think he sees the field very well and don’t trust him in critical situations to make the right play, as you outline. Disappointing, I had high hopes coming in to the season but he seems like a mid floor / low ceiling type of player.

I think the correct terminology for him is "serviceable back-up"

I don’t know what it was about the camera angles of this game, but it clearly showed how the quarterback was unable to locate very open receivers. I too saw it and was incredibly frustrated. It made me wonder how often it occurred in other games. I love the guys heart and Moxie but in the end you have to be able to get the ball in the hands of wide receivers. Could it be a confidence thing?

Delane's post-game interview was inspirational. He's a sharp cookie. Hope we can keep him. He seems to be at home.

Awesome commentary. This season has been about transitioning from one football administration to another. It was a learning experience for players and coaches and in the late season it appears they are learning pretty well as they go. Still a work in progress of course. Pry thought Marve was ready to call the "D" and it appears he is. Pry could concentrate on overseeing the whole operation of the program and he looked more like a head coach. It appears the "O" line is getting a better grasp of whatever Joe Rudolph is teaching them. It's a process that seems to be making incremental progress. I think the program will keep getting better to be a program we can be proud of. Go Hokies.

This one had to feel better to write!

Yes indeed.

For all the mistakes Wells made, he did what he was told to do in the 4th Qtr; snap the ball with less than 5 seconds on the play clock. It's a shame a Heisman Trophy candidate couldn't do that when he played for us. The shivers was one thing, but intentionally not following the game plan was a dereliction of duty and selfish.

We get it. You hate HH. Amazing that Tech finally wins a game and you use your comments to throw shade at a former player who was hurt in his game.
