I can forgive Fu for a bunch of his mistakes. But I will never forgive him for the HH disaster.

Agree. Seeing Hendon blossom and thrive at a big time program in the SEC is embarrassing and demoralizing. Fuente did this in and out of the doghouse in love out of love merrygoround cycle with every single running back and QB we had after the Josh Evans year. He somehow proceeded to successfully run our players and their Highschool coaches away. These are the key triggers to the downfall of our program IMO. I am Happy for Hooker but Hate it for Hokies. Sounds like a Tshirt! Watch Hendon beat Alabama this weekend.

Orange Crush! Hendon Wins......What did I tell ya! How long will it take for Tech to get that type of greatness? It took the Orange about 15years.

All I’m seeing is a team (program) that burned itself to the ground that is starting over from scratch. I expected a bad team this year and that’s exactly what it is. Sometimes I have to keep reminding myself of that. It’s not the coaches fault or the players fault. It’s not Whit Babcock’s fault. It’s a work in progress, and it’s just starting. They just have to have time to get organized and then start getting better. Sustained improvement usually comes in bite sized increments. Right now it’s a long way to go to get back to good football for this program.

Not getting fired unless he "Galen Scotts it". About spit out my soda out at that part lol! Didn't think that the Galen Scott situation would go down as a "thing" to now reference for other coaches lol!!

And not for nothing, could coach try to not look like he just parked the fork lift and coming in from the loading dock?

Another VT bright spot most have overlooked… Frosh TE D. Wright had 5 catches. Along with 4 last game. 2 games into his VT career and he has 9 receptions! Not bad at all!

Yes, he could be a weapon in a way that Mitchell toyed with but never really materialized into.

The punting was bad, but this is one of the hardest pro stadiums to kick in.That's what keeps Bosdell with the Steelers. I also think this spread style formation with three in the middle is hurting. Sheibist was a much better ST coach than Holt. We have been bad since ODU and is no better. We are not disciplined period. Coaching has been disappointing overall. Mines is our strongest coach. Receiver group has improved.Pry talked about a running style smashmouth offense. Why are we in a spread? Rudolph probably came expecting otherwise.

      HokieJB October 10, 2022 at 11:23 PM

Why is punting difficult in that stadium?

   vtgriff09 October 10, 2022 at 8:28 PM

Said this after the game and this speaks to overall lack of discipline in another part of our team. 19 of 36 carries totaled ZERO yds. That is right, 19 carries went for zero. That means talent is not an issue. You are able to keep an rb for zero yds on 19 carries, it means you are getting push and winning up front. We didn't allow Abankanda get 320 yds because we got whooped up front, we gave up 320 (on 17 carries btw) because of lack of gap integrity/ lack of discipline. The penalties and stats tell the story more and more.

Pitt also realized that #17 could get pushed around by their TE's and started running to his side of the field. This let the play-side OT release to seal an LB and the pulling T/G could create a nice big lane for the safety or weakside LB to fill. Sometimes the fill was poorly executed but a significant problem was the size of some these dynamic gaps Pitt was able to create by blocking/pinning down on #17 and pulling behind that block.

"I just like trips down memory lane." at this point it is so nice to have those memories ... at least. i hope we'll be making some more highlight reel memories VERY SOON, but not on our opponents' near-TD, long runs or passes. Go Hokies!

VT football now has about 15 coaches and and analysts - someone could actually watch the play clock and tell the HC when it got 5 seconds - WTF. Also, sometime before Tony Dorsett - no, wait, Israel Abanikanda got to 320 yards VT might have considered putting about 8 guys in the box and run-blitz every play. At least Pitt would have had to change their game plan on their way to 45. With all the talk about talent, the reason VT keeps losing big is execution by almost everyone in the program. Oh well, on to the U at lunchtime Saturday….

our run D was boom or bust vs that RB. multiple TFL, multiple 0-yard gains. And multiple 20+ yard TD runs.

Signs of life...good to see. Gonna be a long, bumpy ride. Let's hang on and take the long view.

Hopefully we will have a better day Punting. The kicking game in general was the worst I have seen this year. What happened?

       hokiepro October 10, 2022 at 8:34 PM

Peter Moore had a BAD day, both punting and holding for PKs. He had to be not feeling right or something

Great article, as usual. Those old videos got me fired up - and then down - wish we had players with enough speed in the secondary to run down opponent players. We will get there.

Thanks for the article Will and I understand the tone and direction. The one irony though is the 85% were correct in the end. I was not a part of that bloc but, I have to acknowledge the result.

Didn't CFB use to hire a referee to call penalties during practices? That might be a good move.

Pretty sure Pry has had officials at some practices

We still do that. Its been mentioned multiple times on this board.

If you listened to Tech Tech Live, he addressed it. Has real ACC officials at practice calling penalties and then explaining them to the players.

Then I think the players committing these bone head Pi, Ruffing, and operation penalties need to be sat or face stadium step running on Sunday or Monday like CoachFB use to do. I feel like the players don't have a fear consequences for the ou r actions.
