   Agree if we are going to start with a FCS team, prefer one from the Commonwealth.

   While these games are required under the current landscape of CFB, we could do better and help the teams within our state, not to mention scout their rosters. Besides VMI, we have William and Mary, Richmond, Hampton and Norfolk state, BTW, UVa plays each one of those schools in the next 4 years. Just seems to make much more sense than the Citadel and Gardner Webb.

   I have no issue with playing the opening game against a FCS opponent. Many P4 teams do that. That said, I would prefer we play teams that we can identify with more such as the in state schools like W&M and Richmond

   This is what it is. The tradeoff for 10 P4 games a year is a glorified scrimmage for opening weekend.

   In a way I kind of like it, I don't want to open with somone that can beat us. I consider games like this a one game preseason.

      Or play Ferrum, Bridgewater, Randy Macon, Hampton-Sydney. etc. Pure waste of time and unless we lose (Super Awful) winning does not tell you anything, or make the team better.

   VMI, The CItadel, and Gardner-Webb - who is coming up with these opening game opponents? These are not going to be entertaining games and hurt the Hokies SoS. Maybe VT can get a “week 0” game in ‘28 for a bit of early season excitement.

      That is week 0 And it doesn’t hurt VT’s SOS when only about 15 FBS teams TOTAL are NOT playing an FCS team this season for example. Nearly every other P4 team plays at least one of these per season.

      Look at the PSU's OOC schedules under Franklin. Mostly pretty easy OOC schedules. Toughest games in the 12 yrs were home & home's vs bad Auburn teams, WVU & Pitt. Other than that, it was a bunch of Villanova, Akron, Nevada, Buffalo-type schools. No big neutral field games. I wouldn't expect that to change - especially if the playoff expands. You don't average 9 wins/year and still pretty consistently finish 3rd or lower in the conference without three 90% OOC wins to pad the record.
