Virginia Tech women's basketball officially announced its 2026-27 non-conference schedule on Monday evening.
As Tech Sideline previously reported, the Hokies will play 10 of their 13 contests at home, highlighted by Tennessee (Dec. 3) in the SEC/ACC Challenge.
In-state foes James Madison (Nov. 8) and Radford (Dec. 21) visit Cassell Coliseum, while Tech's lone road game is at VCU (Nov. 12). It last played in the Siegel Center in 2009.
The Dukes will venture down Interstate 81 to Blacksburg for the first time since 2008. It marks the return game of a home-and-home series, as Megan Duffy & Co. played in Harrisonburg last year. They're one of three confirmed NCAA Tournament teams on the Hokies' docket, joining the Lady Vols and Charleston (Dec. 28).
Michigan State, which advanced to the second round of the Big Dance, could be the fourth. Tech would play the Spartans on Nov. 24 in the Emerald Coast Classic in Destin, Fla. It opens that event with UT Martin on Nov. 23.
Of the Hokies' 11 mid-major opponents, six are from three conferences — the Atlantic 10 (VCU and La Salle), the CAA (Campbell and Charleston) and the Sun Belt (Appalachian State and JMU). The other five hail from the Big South (Radford), Conference USA (Delaware), the MEAC (North Carolina Central), the Ohio Valley (UT Martin) and the SoCon (UNC Greensboro).
Propped up by James Madison (No. 43) and Charleston (No. 100), those 11 teams had an average NET ranking of 204 last year. Radford participated in the WBIT while La Salle made the WNIT.
Before the season begins, Tech will travel to College Park for an exhibition at Maryland on Monday, Oct. 19, which is open to the public. The Hokies' last trip to the Xfinity Center was the 2022 NCAA Tournament, when they lost to Florida Gulf Coast despite Elizabeth Kitley's program-record 42 points.
The Terrapins are coming off a 24-9 (11-7 Big Ten) campaign and reached the second round of the Big Dance. VT last played at UMD in 2014.
