Virginia Tech and James Franklin added to their 2027 recruiting class on Saturday with a commitment from wide receiver Anthony Roberts.

Roberts visited the Hokies twice in the last month — on March 31 and again on April 18 for the spring game — and committed soon after. The other four schools in his top five included Duke, Florida State, Rutgers and Wake Forest.

Rivals ranks Roberts as a four-star prospect from Rolesville, N.C., just northeast of Raleigh. It lists him as a top-300 recruit in the country (No. 298), the No. 41 wide receiver and the No. 10 player in North Carolina. He is a three-star talent by to 247Sports and ESPN, which had him as the No. 70 wideout and between 18 and 20 in the state.

Other Power Four offers for Roberts included Boston College, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina and Virginia. He had visits scheduled to the Wolfpack, Demon Deacons and Blue Devils this summer, as well as the Hokies.

On the gridiron, he hauled in 35 passes for 656 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025. He's also an impressive basketball player who averaged 15.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game as a junior.

Roberts is the seventh pledge in Tech's 2027 class and third in the last three days, joining fellow offensive recruits Kelvin Morrison (RB) and Braxton Salster (ATH). The other four commits in the class are defensive linemen.
